Design checklist

Build a room.
Not a shopping cart.

A good apartment comes together in layers. Work in this order to avoid buying pieces that look lovely on their own but do not fit your life—or your floor plan.

01 · Plan before purchasing

Know the space.

Measure walls, doorways, and the delivery route. List the activities you need to support. Keep what already works, set an overall budget, and reserve a buffer for delivery, fixings, and overlooked essentials. Tape furniture outlines and test circulation before committing.

02 · Invest in the foundation

Buy the useful pieces.

Prioritize the furniture you use daily: a comfortable bed, supportive seating, a workable table or desk, and practical storage. Check dimensions, durability, return policies, and secondhand condition. Add a correctly scaled rug, curtains, and flexible lighting before smaller decorative purchases.

03 · Layer, live, adjust

Let character arrive.

Live with the layout before filling every surface. Add art, contrasting textures, and a vintage or handmade piece. Shop what you already own before buying accessories. Try a small 10% accessory refresh when you want change, and revise anything that makes daily life less comfortable.
